U.S. and Latin American Banking Expert
Bi-lingual senior bank executive with experience in lending and restructuring business and commercial real estate loans in the United States and Latin America.
This senior consultant has extensive experience in commercial real estate origination and underwriting, distressed loan work-outs and restructurings, with particular expertise in managing large and complex distressed construction loans. During his 35-year business career, he has underwritten over $800 million in commercial real estate and construction loans, valued and conducted due diligence for the acquisition of distressed real estate loan portfolios in excess of $1.5 billion and restructured distressed loan portfolios in excess of $1.0 billion. His experience with restructurings and distressed loans includes selling over $100 million of real estate assets through Section 363 bankruptcy court sponsored sales, reviewing and developing reorganization plans, and foreclosing on real estate assets valued at over $200 million through judicial sales.
An experienced credit risk management professional, he has underwritten business, public sector, construction and commercial real estate financings in excess of $3.0 billion; reviewed and rated loan portfolios in excess of $1.5 billion; and managed delinquency and collections of commercial loan portfolios in excess of $400 million. He has also reviewed and developed credit policies for the Board of Directors of a full-service commercial bank with assets in excess of $10 billion.
He is intimately familiar with the US regulatory environment having worked at major international banks in Puerto Rico which is subject to the regulation of the FDIC, SEC, and Federal Reserve, among other regulatory bodies in the financial services sector. His most recent experience includes negotiating on behalf of an acquiring bank FDIC-sponsored loss-sharing arrangements in the areas of loan charge-off reimbursements which are critical to the ultimate profitability of any FDIC-assisted acquisition of a failed financial institution.
His experience also includes senior level positions at a government development bank with over $10 billion in assets, and companies involved in the telecommunications and information technology sectors in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. With over 10 years experience, he has served as a professor of graduate-level courses in finance, economics and strategy at a major university. He has extensive litigation support experience having served as an in-house subject matter expert supporting the legal team throughout the entire litigation process and as an expert witness in court.
